Dr. John Boyce is currently President of J.M. Boyce Consulting LLC, a role he assumed after retiring from his positions as Director of Hospital Epidemiology & Infection Control at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT and as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine in 2015. He served as President of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) in 1999. He was lead co-author of the CDC Guideline for Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings, published in 2002. Subsequently, he was a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Expert Panel on the Guide to Improving Hand Hygiene, and a member of the Joint Commission Advisory Panel on Consensus Measurement on Hand Hygiene Project.
Dr. Boyce served as a standing member of the hand hygiene committee of the WHO, which published the WHO Guidelines for Hand Hygiene in Health Care in 2009. He has co-authored multiple articles dealing with hand hygiene, and is co-editor of a book on hand hygiene that is currently in preparation. Areas of special interest include methods for improving and monitoring hand hygiene practices in healthcare.
