Russell N. Olmsted, MPH, CIC, has over 34 years of experience in the fields of infection prevention and control and healthcare epidemiology. Mr. Olmsted serves as the Director of Infection Prevention & Control for Trinity Health’s Unified Clinical Organization headquartered in Livonia, MI.
He is an associate editor of the American Journal of Infection Control and a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Std. 170 Committee (ventilation of healthcare facilities). He served as the 2011 President of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology and was been a member of CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee from 2006-2010.
Mr. Olmsted’s research interests include use of implementation science to prevent device-associated infection and the role of the environment of care as a reservoir for pathogens that cause healthcare-associated infections. He is active in multi-facility HAI prevention collaborations.
Mr. Olmsted has a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s of public health in general epidemiology from the University of Michigan. He also holds board certification in infection prevention and control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
